With more than 100,0002 movements a day our eyes have to make extra efforts to maintain sharpness while we are in motion. In addition to prescription and eye physiology, the design of each lens now takes into account visual behaviour, a prerequisite for fast and accurate eye movements.

Our eye movement is multi-directional, but standard multifocal lenses are designed to support linear eye movement and this can make it difficult for the eyes to switch focus. The Varilux® XR series™ lens responds to the way our eyes actually move, giving us a more natural vision experience.

Multifocal lenses Varilux® XR series from Essilor® know exactly how our eyes move. They are designed using artificial intelligence, which uses 1,000,000 data points from user tests to predict our visual behavior!

To make the lenses, a digital avatar is created for each of us and analysed in a 3D environment where it reproduces real-life scenarios. Through this process, our individual vision profile is created, which enables us to optimize the lens according to our own visual behavior and not just our prescription.

The Varilux® XR series™ , incorporates three innovative Essilor® technologies that combine to offer a revolutionary solution to presbyopia correction.

XR-motion™ technology allows the two lenses to fine-tune themselves based on the user’s visual behaviour profile to provide sharper, smoother vision even on the move.

Nanoptix® technology reduces distortion at the periphery of the lens to minimize the feeling of “wobble” in dynamic situations, such as climbing up and down stairs.

Xtend® technology combines the near and intermediate vision areas of the lens to give you clear vision even at close distances.
